I re-did this room several times now but I am really liking this way the best!

This room is extremely neutral  & simple!

The whole room is clutter free with only a few decorations.  We have a mirror, a photo, and a plant on a "fireplace mantel" shelf.

We have brown, room darkening curtains, and drum shade lamps. 

I forgot to take a picture of the wall across from the bed but there is a black dresser with a plant on it and a mirror.

This room is really clean and clutter-free!

Home Tour: Master Bath

Hello, hello, hello!! :)  How are you doing?  How was your weekend?  Today, I am continuing my House of Grace Home Tour.  

Today is our Master Bathroom.

There is nothing too exciting about this room except that it is really clean and simple.  I LOVE that about it. :)

We have nice soaking tub which we LOVE!! :)  We actually use it all the time and the kids love it too!

I wanted to keep is simple because I need the space to spread my make-up all over the counter, lol!

I really enjoy having 2 windows in here because the lighting is amazing and when they are open, it gets a breeze.

I bought this cute little mirror for $5 at a garage sale.

Our house didn't come with a medicine cabinet so we just added a mirror. 

I added some flowers for a spa like feel.

We don't really use these, lol!

We love having a private room here. ;)

Decorating Rules: How to Hang your Pictures the Proper Height

Hello! :) How are you doing today? I hope that you are in the swing of things this school year so far. We are loving it and it has been a smooth transition so far for us.

Hi, Creating a House of Grace, readers! I’m Sarah Solomon and I’m soexcited to be guest posting for Bonnie! Today, I’ll be sharing decorating rulesthat is focused on how to hang your pictures the proper height.

I love decorating and how a room can make you feel. Although, I have walked into many homes where the pictures were just not hung properly and it's made a room feel off. You'll be surprised how different your room can feel when you follow these simple rules.

So, on with the rules!!

Rule #1 – Eye Level

The rule of thumb is to hang your pictures at eye level.Well, who’s eye level?! I have the answer for you!

57 inches on center

“On center” means the center of the picture should be 57inches from the ground. This rule is great for a picture that isn’t above asofa or table.

Rule #2 – Picture above a sofa, chair, or table

The rule is to hang the picture 6-12 inches above the sofa,chair, or table. So, the bottom of the frame is 6-12 inches from the top of thesofa, chair, or table.






(These pictures are hung to follow the curve of the headboard.)

Rule #3 – Groupings

• To find the proper height for a grouping:

1. Lay out your pictures on the floor first to getthe grouping you like.

2. Find the center of your grouping.

3. Measure 57 inches from the floor or 6-12 inchesfrom the sofa, chair, or table.

4. The center of your grouping should be 57 inchesfrom the floor or 6-12 inches from thesofa, chair, or table.

• Keep at least one edge of the grouping in a straight line. Example: vertical, horizontal, or center.
• 
  
• If you’re hanging a grouping of pictures, space them a frames width apart.

(This grouping is 57 inches from the center of the grouping; hung vertically because the wall is tall and narrow.)

Extra Tips:

• Use the proper size picture for the size of the wall. If you have a large wall, don’t put a small picture on it. Instead, use a larger picture or have a large grouping that fills the wall.

• Use vertical pictures on narrow walls and vise-versa.
• 
  
• Don’t be afraid to over-lap a lamp in-front of your pictures.

• Don’t be afraid to adjust the rules to work around obstacles.

(Example: Tall narrow wall with vertical pictures to fill space; adjusted to fit above light switches; lamp over-laps pictures)

(These pictures were adjusted because of the light switch and they are an appropriate size.)

These pictures were taken at my parents house. Everything I have learned about decorating I have learned from my mom. She is certified in re-design but she has also always had an "eye" for good design. I have been able to accompany her on her re-designs.

Girls Room on a Budget

Hello! :)  How are you doing today?  How was your weekend?  We had an amazing weekend that including apple picking!!  That is one of my favorite things to do EVER!!!  We had a blast.

I showed you a couple recent posts of our house changes and then was inspired to do a whole home tour.

Today, is my daughter, Grace's room!  Her name is in my blog name after all, hehe!

The first room in our house to paint use our daughter's, room.  I always wanted a pink girl's room and so did Grace.  I was even more excited to find the perfect color paint in the "oops" section of Lowes paint department...SCORE!

I am also proud to say that I didn't have to buy even one item at full-price in her whole room.  Actually, it was all second hand or "new" from the Goodwill.

Her room is simple and girly!  I bought this bookshelf 9 years ago from a garage sale and we painted it white.

These baskets are also from a garage sale and are great for storage.

Again, this basket was from a garage sale for a dollar and again... great for storage!

Her American Girl dolls were actually mine when I was a girl.  

I saved a lot of my old things for her.

I just love these Pottery Barn Tins that I bought at a garage sale.  They are the cutest and she loves to keep her little "collectables" in them.

I love all the bedding!  She actually had 2 sets that we rotate.  We pillow and blanket (not used in photo) are Pottery Barn that I got from my neighbor.  She LOVES stuffed animals!  Pillow Pets are the favorite!!!  Her comforter on the bed is also from our neighbor and it is Laura Ashley.

Her shelf (actually a mantel shelf) is from a garage sale for $15 and I placed sweet flowers ($1 each) and some photos of her on it.  (The frame are also from a garage sale.)  

I am not kidding when I said that EVERYTHING was second hand!!  

We got married at 19 and bought this house when we were 23 so didn't have have any money left for furniture and things without using credit.  (We hate credit!!!)

This little dresser was $5 and I painted it white.  The tall standing lamp is Pottery Barn and was $15 from a GS (garage sale).  The other lamp was a gift from my Mom and the frames, baby crib, and chair  were also from garage sales.

Her nightstand was mine as a girl and her bed was my sister's.

I bought this Pottery Barn kitchen set for $30 from a garage sale and the little, white, doll clothes cabinet was from my Grandma. 

Also, her curtain was from a garage sale and rod and holdbacks were from the Goodwill.  She also has Pottery Barn flower rugs that I bought from a garage sale for 50 cents each... I know...CRAZY!

So, there you go!!

You can totally decorate your home without spending a lot of money! 

It takes time to put together a whole room from garage sale shopping and you might not find exactly what you were looking for but I am happy with how it turned out, Grace LOVES, and we saves a whole lotta $$$!!!

How to use Command Strips

Hello!  I have been hearing all about these Command Strips so I asked my friends on Facebook what they though about these while I was at Target.

This is what they said...

You can see by the response that people really like them, so I bought them!

Then, I made my husband get to work, hehe!!

There were more steps than I thought.  First we had to rub everything with Rubbing Alcohol. 

Then, we added the strips.

This is the wall "before".

We used 4 strips for this picture.

Here is the other wall.

After we put the strips on, we needed to hold it down and then wait an hour to hang it.

My husband said that he would of rather used a hammer and nail, lol, but I like that there are no holes to fix.

Here is the after!  

I love these photos that we had done during our Florida trip.
